Audigy Director Tapped For Accreditation Role

January 3, 2018, VANCOUVER, Wash. — Bettie Borton, Au.D., director of university and student outreach at Audigy, has recently completed training to serve as an Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) site visitor.

Dr. Borton has served in a number of professional leadership positions, including former president of the American Academy of Audiology and national chair of the board of governors for the American Board of Audiology. While serving in her current role at Audigy, Dr. Borton has been instrumental in developing student learning opportunities in practice management, connecting emerging professionals with career opportunities, and helping universities enhance their Doctor of Audiology curricula through the Audigy University program.

“As someone who has dedicated many years of service to shaping the future of hearing health care, I’m excited to serve the profession through this form of university outreach,” said Borton. “My role as an ACAE site visitor aligns with Audigy’s commitment to the highest standards of education in support of tomorrow’s independent practicing audiologists.”

ACAE accreditation aims “to recognize, reinforce and promote high quality performance in Au.D. educational programs through a rigorous verification process,” per the commission’s website. It “also assures communities of interest that graduates will be able to function according to the national scope of practice.” Though ACAE accreditation is largely voluntary, a growing number of schools are seeking the designation.

As a trained site visitor, Borton will assist in the ACAE accreditation process by evaluating applicants’ missions and objectives and by helping the applying universities meet current ACAE standards. In addition to online data entry, the review process includes physical visits to the schools pursuing accreditation.
